Standard homeowners or renters insurance policies do not cover weather related flood damage. Flood insurance is a separate policy specifically designed to cover damages caused by weather related flooding. Please note that flooding due to plumbing issues for example, is not part of flood insurance coverage, this peril is indeed included in most homeowner insurance policies . (Please verify with your current insurer)
